Uterine Fibroids: Causes And Cures
If you have uterine fibroids, or suspect you might have fibroids, one of the things you’ll be wondering is “Why me?”
This is a very important question, and one that plagues many women who suffer from fibroids. The simple answer to why women get fibroids is that there is no absolute cause, or none that can be directly pinpointed.
The Causes Of Fibroids Confuses Experts
What medical researchers and physicians do know is that fibroids are greatly affected by changing estrogen levels, which play a part in the fibroid tumor development and growth.
The causes of fibroids can be genetic, hormonal, environmental or some combination of all of these. Confusing, eh?
In fact, doctors are sure that these risk factors and potentially causal agents all interact with each other to increase the likelihood of fibroid development.
Fibroids And Estrogen
When a woman’s estrogen levels increase, for example, during pregnancy, fibroids tend to grow at a more rapid pace.
Taking contraceptive pills (birth control pills) also floods the body with estrogen.
Women taking contraceptive pills, therefore, have higher levels of estrogen, and are more likely to develop fibroids. When women are in menopause, and levels of estrogen naturally decrease, fibroids also decrease, shrink or disappear.
Basically, it all ties into estrogen, which elevates a woman’s risk for developing fibroids.
The Fibroid Cure contains information on how to balance your hormones by decreasing the excess estrogen that causes fibroids to grow in the first place.

Five days ago my gynecologist told me I needed a full hysterectomy to remove an asymptomatic but melon sized fibroid tumor. I went into complete panic mode, unable to eat or sleep or think fatalistically. Today, in seeking a second opinion, I was told that the advice I had received was 1950′s style thinking and that despite its size, if it wasn’t interfering with any of my bodily funtions I should go and live my life and come back in a year. Although it will continue to be a concern to me I feel that I have been given a new lease on life. I would strongly suggest getting more than one opinion.

What do you make of fibroids growing and the uterine wall increasing when I have an estrodiol count of only 15 at 55 years old?
I am having surgery in three weeks.
17. Mia Williams |
Hi
I have Fibroids and this is the 3rd time they have occured…the first two times I had them removed surgically.
I am now 51 and was told that they can reduce after the Menopause due to the decreased level of estrogen.
Well mine have got worse and I now look pregnant.
I have accepted that I will need a further operation as there is no other way. I wish there was as snother Operation is not something I relish.

Hi Shola
Thanks for the download re fibroids. I have just been told I have a fibroid which is calcified. No experience of this before -is there anything to worry about? I am past the menopause.

I have had fibroid embolisation in the last 9 months after formerly being offered a hysterectomy. It has improved the symptoms (heavy bleeding over 1 day) but not quite as well as I hoped. Before that I was kept on tranexamic acid and hormone tablets for a long time with promises that it would get better!
I am about to have a hysteroscopy to check on the fibroids and possibly to have a mirena coil fitted because they worked quite well in the past but fell out as the womb became more distended.
perhaps I try some of your dietary suggestions

my concern in all this is how is going to affect me from having child.

I am so confused!! I was Diagnosed with Fibroid tumors over 5 years ago and have researched treatment options and holistic preventative growth recommendations. I recently had a Laparscopic Myomectomy/Laparotomy in which my doctor removed 13 tumors the largest of which was 11 cm…I was then put on birth control pills to maintain a consistent hormone level and decrease the growth rate of the remaining tumors . My confusion is that your news letter states birth control pills INCREASE tumor growth…I want to do what is best for myself but am CONFUSED on what to do!!

This ad maybe explains why I had so many Fibroids years ago. I was on birth control for 10 or more years and I developed 15 Fibroids over the years, but they were removed in 2003. I got back on birth control after my surgery and I now have 7 more Fibroids but I’m no longer on birth control. I have been off them for a year now so I will see how my Fibroids do now. We all must remember that our bodies are all different so what one woman goes through doesn’t mean that you will. I can say that after my surgery things are much better. Even though their growing back those years with out them were like heaven.

Recently I visited my GYN and was told I had fibroids I was shocked because this was the frist time I heard this in all the years I’ ve been having my yearly paps… So this explains why my periods are sooooo very heavy and long. They use to last 2 days now its more like 7 days and I have to wear a adult diaper to top it off. Its terrible my GYN wants me to have a hysto, but if the fibroids can come back why bother??? Im 45 years old. What us poor women have to indure.

I had 5 fibroids removed 7 years ago. The largest one being 18 lbs. In 2003 they were back. I have never taken birth control. I tried acupuncture. The samall fibroids got smaller, the medium ones stayed the same and the larger ones got larger. I am procrastinating because I do not want surgery again. I had complications in 2000, major blood loss. The surgery was 5 hrs and 45 minutes.
In response to Julie 8/5/07 I have scar tissue which the surgeon said will make it hard to conceive. If you have a good surgeon he should be able to remove some of it. My surgeon advised me to conceive approx 3 months after surgery before the tissue hardens. I know this is not too helpful but I have gone through it. Good luck!

I have to admit that I am not one to visit a Dr’s office unless I find it REALLY necessary. So last Aug 06, after enduring months of painful ovulations, cramps, bladder pressure & major indigestion, I visited my Gyn had a vaginal ultrasound & discovered I had fibroids (largest 4.5cm) and a tiny cyst on my ovary. “Take these birth control pills”, he said & come back in 3 mos. Needless to say that I have never taken birth control & at almost 49 wasn’t about to start. So I started a flaxseed regimen, changed my diet a bit and excercised a bit more. Now 1 year later, yep, back for a check up and had another ultrasound. Cyst is gone, fibroids same size, only now I have an enlarged uterus. I do not have heavy periods as indicated by many. Mine is backing up with intermittent down pours. I had a biopsy done (not pretty I tell you) and I’m waiting on the results. Dr suggests a hyst and so in 2 weeks we’ll meet for the best possible solution. Ladies, I feel your pain but we still stand strong in spite of it. Peace profound.

I agree with Toni – what is the point of surgery in many cases, if the fibroids are asymptomatic and might come back anyway?!
And no I had not heard of scar tissue after such an operation but I know it can be a nuisance after many other surgeries.
And I had not thought about this before – but yet another reason why I am all the more convinced now that I don’t wish to go down the road of surgery.
“Today, in seeking a second opinion, I was told that the advice I had received was 1950’s style thinking and that despite its size, if it wasn’t interfering with any of my bodily funtions I should go and live my life and come back in a year. Although it will continue to be a concern to me I feel that I have been given a new lease on life.”
…This is exactly how I am feeling, having just last week discovered that my symptoms are 99% likely to be those of fibroids.
I have read a great deal in the past week. And have concluded that I am prepared to live with my symptoms for as long as necessary. I have had “flooding” for very many years and always just thought it was ‘normal’ for me because nobody ever indicated otherwise!
I now look about 5 months pregnant. But I have done for the last 6 years and just assumed it was a lot of fat, even though a reduced fat diet seemed to make no difference at all.
Again, I can live with the symptoms once I know that they are not life-threatening.

My Dear Sisters,
I want you to know that no mater what the cause of this problem might be, just have it in mind that God Almighty is in control. He will see us through in Jesus name.At the end we will all celebrate our victory over this beast called fibroid in Jesus name.
From personal experience, fibroid is simply caused by satanic attack and the only absolute cure is through divine visitation and counter attack through prayers and fasting just like the testimony of Lilian of July 23 2007.
It is my prayer that the Lord will put an end to this attack in the lives of his children in Jesus name and visit those that are currently suffering as a result of this beast with divine healing and health, and as many that are trusting God for the fruits of the womb, you will all have children in Jesus name.
Thanks.
Ola

Dear all,
I totally agree with Ota (No.30) who has contributed to this page about Fibroids. Our God almighty is our healer. For he said “I am the Lord that healeth thee”. Our Lord is the Great Physician. He is our creator and He knows everything about our body and sicknesses. Thankful to the doctors who are doing reasearches and finding new discoveries and treatments. God is the one who has placed them in their position. But yet there will be limited knowledge in them.
I was diagnosed with fibroids about one and a half years ago. I had heavy bleeding and was advised me to undergo hysterectomy. Waiting upon the Lord, once I postponed my surgery. Then for two months I have not have any bleeding. In the meantime the hospital letter informing me about my surgery has gone astray. So God avoided me to go for the surgery. When I went to my GP he said to wait and see for another few months as I might be reaching menopause. If it is the case I would not want the surgery done as the the fibroid will automatically shrink. What a miracle!. I believe that I am already healed without any medication. All glory be to God.

I had miscarage in 2003 it had been almost 7 years since my husband and i had our first child. I wasn’t giving up till we had 2 children. I got pregnant in 2004 had my first ultratsound and thats when i was told i had 2 fibroids. On top of that i had gestational diebeates. I didn’t gain much weight and and my fibroid didn’t get any bigger. I’m not so sure the hormones are what makes the fibroids inflamed or get bigger. After i had my baby in 2005 i started 2 take birth controll pills a year later after my periods became really heavy and my abdomnal and back pain would last for 2 weeks from the time i would start ovulating till i got off my period. Stayed on them for 3 months and thought they werent making much diffence so i quite taking them. a week later i wished i wouldn’t have quiet. The next month i got back on them and have been taking them ever since. Then only time i have lower back pain is i guess from the pressure of the fibroids being inflamed when im in mead cycle or after my husband and i have had intercourse.
